Eggplane YF-19 - WIP 5

Decaling does make a difference

Mentioned in WIP 4, this post will be about assembling the Fold Booster and decaling the plane.

Parts for the Fold Booster

With a little bit of glue (Mr. Cement S), the pieces are assembled.

A piece of advice to those who are going to build this kit: when you reach this milestone make sure you decal the kit first before proceeding any further. If you were to go ahead and completely assemble the plane, you will have a very difficult time placing some of the decals.
Now that the parts are completed and that the Future is dry, it is time to start working on the decals. If you recall in WIP 1, there are tons of waterslides for this kit. The first part to tackle will be the canopy and followed by the plane itself and finally finishing it off with the other smaller parts.

The decal for the canopy is tricky. There are a total of 5 decals which overlaps each other. The first decal placed was the black followed by the grey on either sides, the top front and finally the top back decal.

As I was placing the top back decal, a bit of the previous decal came out and got lost in oblivion. I will have to cover that area up with a grey paint.

The decals are not as sticky as Bandai. It tends to come out even after a removing the excess water. This could be because Mr. Softer and Mr. Setter was not used but I doubt it. So a word of caution: leave the decals on the kit for at least a day to properly dry before overlapping decals.

There is a problem with the manual. You will have to look carefully at it while assembling the kit. There are some places which requires decals below another part. Take the back portion of the plane as an example.

Decals to be placed at the back portion of the plane below the Fold Booster.

If you missed this and assembled the Fold Booster with glue, you can either forget about decaling this area or slowly and carefully slice it away, apply the decal and glue it back.

The next post will be decaling the fast pack and fold booster and panel lining the kit before finally putting it together.
