Small scale gunpla - WIP 5 (Final)

An interesting feature

Detailing work can start for the Gyan since the Zaku has been assembled. The first thing to tackle is the color for the body. I used violet as the base color for this kit. The only work left is to paint the body a dark blue.

Left: On-going painting work
Right: Completed paint job and panel lining

Once the paint is dry and matt coated, the kit is assembled. In WIP 1 I mentioned both the instruction sheet for the Gyan and Zaku are the same. I'm guessing that since this build is so straight forward that the manufacturer could save money on creating a new instruction sheet for the Gyan and just print the Zaku instruction instead.

After a few minutes of snapping everything together, here is the completed Gyan:

There is an interesting feature about this kit. Both the hands are moulded differently. The right hand can only hold the sword and the left can only hold the shield. The left hand mould is also interesting, More on that later.

Right hand

Now that the Gyan is done, it is time for a 360° view without the weapons:

Left and right view

Front and back view

Now back to the topic of the hand mould for the shield. Interestingly the shield can only be attached one direction. The peg on the shield is always at the bottom. Don't understand what it is I'm saying? Let's see if the pictures can make it clearer:

Another 360° view of the kit

Notice the position of the peg on the shield? I tried to attach the shield the other way but it wouldn't go in. I feel that this is a nice looking kit for display purposes. The articulation is the same as the Zaku. Both hands and the head can move 360°. I do not want to risk breaking this kit by moving the hands so I will just leave it as it is.

Below is a list of all the pros and cons and the conclusion of what I think about the both the kits according to my personal experience.

Pros:
- Cheap
- Good practice kit

Cons:
- Wrong color moulding
- Pieces breaks / have stress marks easily
- Fitting issue
- Glue for the stickers

Conclusions:
This is a very cheap kit. Quality: Pieces are very fragile and one wrong touch or too much pressure will either break or stress the plastic. There are two good things from this kit: 1) It can be used as a practice kit if you want to dip your toes into the waters of hand painting. 2) Perfect to get small kids interested in model kits. If you are willing to put the time into the kits, it can be a perfect display on your shelf without anyone knowing that it is a cheap kit.
