PG Astrays - WIP 8

Can I have some more, please?

One leg was completed in the previous post while waiting for the paint on armor of the other leg to be dry. Once they are dry, the assembling process can begin. This is the leg where the peg of the knee is broken. I did not manage to find a solution to that problem so will just leave it as it is and manually move the knees if I were to do any poses with this kit.

Completed legs of the ABF

I did screw up on the shading this time. One side has a heavier shaded look than the other. To get an even shading on both side, I will have to do the same method I did for the MG 00 Seven Swords: shade all the armor pieces together before assembling. That's the mistake and lesson to learn from.

Now that both legs are completed, they must be set aside in order for me to start work on the waist section. Starting out with the inner frame, all the parts are removed from the runners.

 Parts of the waist

After removing the nubs and consulting the manual on which piece should be Gunmetal and Light Gunmetal, the pieces are prep and painted. When the paint has dried, the pieces are assembled and you get the waist section of the PG ABF.

There are 3 more pieces in the primer color. Those are the unfortunate pieces because both the Light Gunmetal and the Gunmetal color has finished as well. I will have to restock those 2 colors on my next visit to the hobby store. I have only one can each and I'm not even at the halfway point for the Astray brothers.

Since the work on the inner frame cannot be completed, I decided to start on the armor parts instead. They are de-nubed, panel lined, decaled and shaded and waiting for a coat of pearl white.

Left: Panel lined pieces
Right: Decaled and shaded

It has been raining a lot recently and when the rain stopped and the sun finally came out to play, I took this opportunity to complete remaining pieces of inner frame, transformed the red armor to blue and sprayed a layer of pearl white on the white parts.

Parts waiting for the paint to dry

After all the parts are dried, I did some panel lining on the inner frames and the blue armor. Also added the necessary decals and then sealing it off with a layer of Future.

All the pieces and waist section awaiting assembly

After a quick look at the manual and assembling pieces where they belong, the waist section of the ABF is finally complete.

A little comparison between panel lined and not panel lined pieces of the back skirt armor

All the assembled armor parts for the waist.

A top and bottom view of the skirt section

Not sure it this can be seen clearly from the pictures above but just to point out to those who are planning on painting and posing this kit, extra care is required. The side armor is rubbing against both the front and back skirt armors and if you are not careful, you will spoil your paintjob when moving the parts. That is the only bad thing about the waist section.

Now that the waist is done, I can go back to doing the ARF's feet and waist section and hopefully it stops raining when I reach the painting section of the build.
